Meleta is built to be used without handing over anything personal. You can build and play a verse playlist without an account. This page explains what we do collect, why, and how to have it removed.
Without an account
Nothing personal is stored about you. When you tap Share, we save that playlist (its verses, translation, and settings like speed and looping) so the link works. Your browser keeps a private edit key so only you can change it later. Anyone with the link can see the playlist, so don't put anything in a title you wouldn't want seen.
If you sign in with Google
Google shares your name, email address, and profile picture with us. We also store:
- the playlists you save, so you can open them on any device
- the last playlist you played and where you were in it, so Home can offer Continue
- how many seconds you listened each day, for your streak and listening totals
That's it. We never see or store your Google password.
If you leave your email
The “Enjoying Meleta?” prompt is optional. If you fill it in, we store your email address and use it only to ask, now and then, how Meleta is working for you, and to tell you about new features. Nothing else.
Analytics
We use PostHog to see how Meleta is used: things like which pages are visited, when a playlist is played, shared, or saved, and errors that happen in the app. These events are tied to a random device identifier, not to your name, email, or account. Like most web services, PostHog also receives your IP address, which it can use to estimate your rough location.
Cookies and local storage
If you sign in, we use cookies to keep you signed in. PostHog uses a cookie or local storage to recognise a returning device. Meleta also stores a few things only in your browser: whether you've seen the welcome screen, your share edit keys, and whether you've already answered the email prompt. We don't use advertising cookies.
Who helps us run Meleta
We rely on a few providers to run Meleta, and each handles data only for that purpose:
- Vercel hosts the app.
- Supabase stores accounts, playlists, and listening data.
- PostHog runs the product analytics.
- Cloudflare R2 stores the narrated verse audio.
- OpenRouter generates the narration. It only ever receives Bible verse text, never anything about you.
- Google provides sign-in.
What we don't do
We don't sell your data, we don't show ads, and we don't share your information with anyone beyond the providers above.
Deleting your data
Email privacy@meleta.co from the address you signed in with, or the one you gave us, and we'll delete your account, saved playlists, listening history, and email within 30 days. When your account is deleted, your saved playlists are no longer tied to you. Any share links you've already sent out keep working until you ask us to remove those too.
You can sign out at any time from Profile.
Children
Meleta isn't aimed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you think a child has signed up, let us know and we'll delete their account.
Changes
If we change how we handle your data, we'll update this page and its date. If the change is significant and we have your email, we'll also tell you directly.
